Walton Arts Center is proud to welcome Shrek: The Musical to Northwest Arkansas! Performances begin on Tuesday, October 30 and run through Sunday, November 4. Tickets range from $39 to $69 and can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.

An entirely new musical which opened on Broadway December, 2009, Shrek the Musical is based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the Shrek movie series. The original Broadway production was directed by Fayetteville-native Jason Moore, whose feature film directorial debut, Pitch Perfect, opened October 5, 2012.

Shrek:The Musical tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren’t only found in fairy tales.

The original Broadway production of Shrek: The Musical was nominated for eight Tony Awards in 2009, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, and received one Tony Award for Best Costume Design by Tim Hatley. The show also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Musical Show Album, which includes 19 original songs written for the production such as “I Know It’s Today,” “The Ballad of Farquaad” and “Make a Move.”The musical is filled with original songs that will make Shrek: The Musical an amazing experience beyond the film, and also includes versions of “Welcome to Duloc” and “I’m A Believer!

In the spirit of Halloween, the Walton Arts Center lobby will be decorated an d there will be special treats throughout the entire run for patrons that are dressed in costume! Beginning at 6pm before the performance on Wednesday October 31, there will be Halloween activities including Trick-or-Treating in the lobby and a costume parade with characters from Shrek: The Musical!
