Lunch and Learn at Fayetteville Public Library

The Non Profit Resource Center at the Fayetteville Public Library will kick off a series of monthly brown bag lunch and learns designed for nonprofit directors and staff on January 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm in the Ann Henry Board Room at the library. The January session will focus on using social media to enhance outreach efforts.

Walton Arts Center partners with local school and ODC/Dance for two performances

Walton Arts Center is proud to welcome ODC/Dance on Saturday, January 19 for two public performances. ODC/Dance presents The Velveteen Rabbit at 2pm in Baum Walker Hall at Walton Arts Center, and tickets range from $10 - $20. Later that evening ODC/Dance presents Unplugged at 8pm in Starr Theater at Walton Arts Center, and tickets are $16.

Retro Gaming Night at FPL - Step back in time and experience the evolution of video games with a special "retro" Gamers Club event at the Fayetteville Public Library on Tuesday, December 18 from 4:00 to 7:00pm!  Enjoy classic video gaming on consoles ranging from Atari to X-Box!  Win a prize for setting the high score on "Donkey Kong!"  Register for door prizes!  Snacks and refreshments will be provided. 

Tyson Foods Donates $150,000 to Youth Bridge Capital Campaign

Tyson Foods Corporate Giving Department will make a $150,000 presentation to Youth Bridge on Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Youth Bridge Substance Abuse Treatment Center, 3895 George Anderson Road, Springdale, AR.

The $150,000 will go toward Youth Bridge’s Capital Campaign for its new residential and clinical complex off Don Tyson Parkway in Springdale.  Tyson Foods’ contribution is an important step in raising the remaining $500,000 needed to match a $1 million challenge grant that will allow the next building to be built.

There’s a scene in the popular 1995 movie Mr. Holland’s Opus starring Richard Dreyfuss where the long-time music teacher voices his displeasure about the arts program being cut from his high school’s budget.

The line goes something like this: “Well, I guess you can cut the arts as much as you want. Sooner or later, these kids aren't going to have anything to read or write about.”
