Community Gardens in the Park Plots Available

If you are interested in gardening at a park land community garden, we encourage you to sign up for a plot while they are available.  Garden plots that range in size from 25 to 100 square feet are available at the Walker Park and Jefferson Community Gardens.  These gardens are located within blocks of each other on South College Avenue.  Plot grants are available for those who quality, with qualifications based on income.  For more information, please visit our website at

Holiday Tips for Reducing Waste and Maximizing Recycling

The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the excess trash from most households as they deal with parties, presents and other holiday activities.  Since Fayetteville operates a Pay-As-You-Throw residential trash program, managing this extra volume can prove somewhat of a challenge.  In December, each single family household will be mailed 4 free extra bag stickers for 2013.  The stickers are to be used on excess bags of trash at any time throughout the year to avoid the $6 extra bag charge for excess trash above the rim of the cart on trash service days. 

Fall Leaf Removal

Each fall Fayetteville experiences a large volume of leaf waste which can cause some problems for homeowners.  The City receives numerous calls to use the street sweeper to remove the leaves.

Apple Creek Hosts Healthy Cooking Class

Apple Seeds, Inc. in partnership with Fayetteville Public Schools will host a free cooking class for families of Owl Creek School and the surrounding community. Apple Seeds, Inc. a local  non-profit dedicated to nutrition education and curbing obesity has partnered with FoodCorps and Seeds That Feed. This will be the 12th Healthy Cooking Class hosted by Apple Seeds, Inc. and the first of its kind held this semester.

Free Mulch in Fayetteville

Due to an excess supply of mulch, Fayetteville residents may receive free mulch during the month of October during normal operating hours at the City’s Compost Facility located at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. in southeast Fayetteville. 

 

“Pesto Fest” Event Raises Funds to Support Urban Ag Training

On Sunday, October 7th from 5 to 10pm, Tri Cycle Farms will host their first annual Pesto Fest contest and benefit concert at the Greenhouse Grille. Local bands are volunteering their time and talent to support the cause, including Candy Lee and the Sweets, Guta and the Phosphenes.

Bulky Waste Clean Up in Ward 4 this Saturday

Alderwomen Rhonda Adams and Sarah Lewis announce that the City of Fayetteville’s Ward 4 will host a Fall Bulky Waste Clean up on Saturday,  September 29, 2012, from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the following two locations: 

 

  • Owl Creek School (Front parking lot) 375 N. Rupple Road
  • Holcomb Elementary 2900 North Salem Road – (**moved from originally-planned Shaver Foods parking lot due to Bikes, Blues, and BBQ)
