Hayes Named Top School Business Administrator in Arkansas | People
Kelly Hayes, Comptroller for the Springdale School District, has been named Truett Goatcher Arkansas School Business Administrator of the Year. Hayes learned of the award at a luncheon in Little Rock.
“This is a great honor,” Hayes said. “The previous winners are the selection committee. That makes the award even more special.”
The award was presented by the Arkansas Association of School Business Officials. It is named in honor of Goatcher, a long time school business official, Arkansas Department of Education staff member, Arkansas Association of Education Administrators (AAEA) staff member and mentor to many.
Hayes is in his 20th year in public school business, including his third year in Springdale. He previously served 17 years in the Cabot School District.
“Cabot was my home and Springdale was on my very short list of school districts I would consider going to,” Hayes said. “I was interested in Springdale because of the reputation of excellence the district has throughout the state of Arkansas. I have found the reputation to be true.
“What I most love about my job is being a part, even in a supporting role, in making a difference in the lives of children. I love working with teachers and all staff members. I love helping any way that I can.
“I am continually amazed at the level of dedication our staff members give to the children of our district. When I go into our schools I am taken aback by the work ethic I see.”
At the district level Hayes is responsible for all school finances and transfer requests as well as oversight of the district technology department and student accounting/enrollment.
Hayes is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University with a degree in accounting and earned a master’s in education leadership from Arkansas State
