21st Annual Dogwood Walk Set for May 18

Humane Society of the Ozarks will be holding its 21st Annual Dogwood Walk Saturday, May 18, at Gulley Park in Fayetteville. Jen Bielema, wife of Bret Bielema, will be the grand marshal. Registration begins at 9 a.m., dog contests at 10 a.m. and the family fun walk around the park begins at 11 a.m. In addition, attendees and their dogs will enjoy information booths, dog training demonstrations, a fun photo booth, face painting, balloon animals and much more. 

Ranger's Pantry Pet Food Bank Receives Grant

Ranger’s Pantry has received a $2,500 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).  The grant will be used to purchase dog food to be distributed through Ranger’s Pantry to families in Fayetteville that are struggling to feed their pets.  Since its founding in May of 2010, Ranger’s Pantry has provided over 49,042 pounds of dog food to more than 1,145 dogs in need.  Grants like this and private donations are the only way that Ranger’s Pantry is able to provide pet food for families in need.

University Students to Raise Funds to End Pet Overpopulation

 

On Saturday, April 27, you can join senior students in the Education Department of the University of Arkansas as they raise funds to help end pet overpopulation at the first annual Fayetteville Paw Fest event.  The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Agricultural Park on Garland Avenue (across from the equine center).

 

Dogs Seeking Temporary Homes

Fayetteville Animal Services is excited to announce that they will be expanding their current dog foster care program.  Fostering is a great way to help out if you’ve been looking for a way to volunteer but aren’t sure that you can make it to the shelter on a regular basis.  Foster homes work one-on-one with a single animal giving them a unique opportunity to dramatically change the life of a dog that might not be thriving in the shelter environment.  “We often see dogs that come into the shelter and become depressed and withdrawn.

Free “Fix” for Fayetteville Pets

Fayetteville Animal Services is celebrating national Spay/Neuter Awareness Month by offering free spay and neuter surgeries to city residents on three different dates in February and March.  “We want to encourage people to take action before they call need to call the shelter because their cat or dog just had a litter,” says Shelter Superintendent, Justine Lentz.  “Spring is a really high intake time for us and we want to make it as easy on people as possible to help prevent unwanted puppies and kittens,” Lentz continued. 

Fayetteville Animal Shelter to Host Holiday Open House

The Fayetteville Animal Shelter invites the public to attend their annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 8th   The Shelter will be offering free cat adoptions and the adoption fee for dogs will be dropped to only $10.  “This is a busy time of year for everyone, but we want to encourage people who are thinking about adopting a pet for the holidays to do so now when they have more time to commit to training and bonding with their new pet,” said Justine Lentz, Animal Services Superintendent for the City of Fayetteville.
