Eighteen-Year-Old Finishes Triple Major, Will Pursue Doctoral Degrees in Math and Physics

Raymond Walter was just a sophomore at the University of Arkansas when he was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. The society’s motto — “let the love of learning rule humanity” — continues to appeal to him.

On Saturday, May 11, Walter will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, physics and economics, a triple major in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. He is accomplishing the feat at age 18.

Students can obtain an Associate of Arts online from NorthWest Arkansas Community College in two years with a structured degree track tailored to fit the needs and schedules of working adults.

 

Springdale Public Schools Education Foundation Receives $100,000 Grant From Tyson Foods

Tyson Foods, Inc. has awarded $100,000 to the Springdale Public Schools Education Foundation (SPSEF) to support the organization’s mission to provide resources that enhance educational and enrichment opportunities for Springdale public school students.

 

While a portion of the grant funds will be directed toward the Foundation’s operating expenses, over the next two years, $70,000 will be used to fund classroom and school-wide grants that directly impact student learning such as Special Olympics, Literacy Mentor Program, and Language Lab.

 

Award winners honored at SpringFest

Award winners honored at SpringFest

– Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus on Tuesday held its annual student-fun day, SpringFest, which included an announcement of award winners from three statewide competitions held last week.

 

In all, 26 students from Arkansas Tech-Ozark were given awards at either the SkillsUSA Arkansas State Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurses Association (ALPNA) Spring Skills Competition in Batesville or Arkansas Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) State Leadership Conference in Little Rock.

 

University Students to Raise Funds to End Pet Overpopulation

 

On Saturday, April 27, you can join senior students in the Education Department of the University of Arkansas as they raise funds to help end pet overpopulation at the first annual Fayetteville Paw Fest event.  The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Agricultural Park on Garland Avenue (across from the equine center).

 

Book Donations Needed for Charlie Brown Book Sale

The students of Vandergriff Elementary are collecting used books of all types for their annual Charlie Brown Book Sale.  The event is the single largest annual fundraiser for the Fayetteville Animal Shelter.  The sale was started over ten years ago by Vandergriff teacher, Sherri Wheeler, who does the event in honor of a chocolate lab she adopted from the City of Fayetteville Animal Shelter.  The dog, named Charlie Brown, is now 11 years old and is a big a celebrity at Vandergriff.

Student Group Invites Community to E.A.T. Together

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Phi Alpha Honor Society of the School of Social Work at the University of Arkansas will host E.A.T. Together from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at the Asbell Elementary School cafeteria, 1500 N. Sang Ave. in Fayetteville.  The event and meal are free of charge and open to the public.

Families are invited to learn the advantages of eating fresh, local food while they watch local chefs and nutrition experts prepare a healthy and delicious meal.
